Old Dovorian Golf Society

The Golfing Society was formed in 1961 when the first Triangular match involving The Cantuarian (Kings Canterbury), Old Lawrentian’s (St Lawrence Ramsgate) and the Old Dovorian Golf Society (Dover College) was played.

Today The Old Dovorian Golfing Society (ODGS) exists to provide an enjoyable golfing experience for those who attended Dover College and/or the Junior School. We arrange to meet on around eight occasions throughout the year at golf courses in Surrey and Kent, usually on a weekday for a round of golf and lunch/breakfast/sandwiches. However, there is opportunities to organise events further afield if there is demand. It is sociable day out and we all have a good natter about this and that. We are an eclectic mix involving ODs with handicaps ranging from around 10 up to 30 or more so we cater for a variety of standards and experience.

In 2021 the Old Dovorian Golf Society has established an annual fixture against the school, usually held during the summer around the school’s half team, where the school put together a team of pupils, parents, and members of staff to play against the OD Golf Society at a local course to Dover.

For most of the Golf Society events there are around ten ODs who usually play on an individual basis in three or four ball matches for a trophy and highly prized golf balls with the OD logo.  Most of the Golf Society’s fixtures are joint events with members of the Old Lawrentian Golf Society, which helps to make it a good day out.

The Golf Society’s main event of the year is arguably our visit in July to Tandridge Golf Club in Surrey, followed by the Triangular match at West Surrey against former pupils of Eastbourne College and Allhallows, which is played as a foursome’s format, with 4 groups and each involving three balls and six players.

The Golf Society have around 40 members and are keen to attract new members. Unfortunately, the Golf Society does not have any lady players at the moment, which is something the Golf Society are working hard to change.

To Join the Golf Society is easy, all you need to do is email the Golf Society’s Treasurer and President Michael Walter will supply you with all the information you require and he will set you up.

The Golf Society also encourages OD’s to come along and have a trial day to see if the Golf Society is for you before committing yourself.
